Feast of Saint John the Baptist – 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations with Morocco

The Embassy organised a reception bringing together a large number of distinguished personalities.

The event provided an opportunity to highlight the charism of the Order, its activities and priorities in Morocco, as well as its actions worldwide.

The reception was honoured by the exceptional presence of His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of His Holiness, His Excellency Mgr Alfred Xuereb, Apostolic Nuncio, and the Archbishop of Tangier.

Morocco was represented at the highest level by His Excellency Mr. André Azoulay, Adviser to His Majesty the King, and Mr. Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Culture, Communication and Youth.

The President of the Constitutional Court, the Vice-President of Parliament, the Perpetual Secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom, the President of the CGEM, and many other prominent figures also attended.

Distinguished foreign guests included two former Prime Ministers: Romano Prodi of Italy and the Peruvian Dr. Luis Solari.

The Minister delivered a particularly strong speech emphasising the Order’s on-the-ground work and the excellent quality of its relations with Morocco.
He highlighted the importance of Saint John the Baptist, Patron of the Order, for both Muslims and Catholics.
